Realizing I had more influence over my children just by worshiping God together

About 6 or 7 months ago, while driving my youngest to school, I hit play on my favorite worship music and to my surprise I could hear her singing along. This is when I had one of my Christian "aha!"moments. I understood just how much of an influence I am to her, just by choosing to change the music I listen to.

I didn't always listen to Christian songs. I heavily enjoyed secular music. Songs that described love and love lost. Something changed in me, though. I no longer chose those songs. Instead, I found myself skipping passed them and hitting the play button on ones that sang about finding God's love. At some point during my journey back to the arms of God I began to change. To be influenced in a more positive way. Even though I still wanted to hear my usual playlist, I'd end up choosing to worship. When this happened I changed even more. And it showed. It was an obvious change. So much so that my youngest began to listen and even learn the words. She feels moved when she sings them.

What an eye opener for me. To see the impact something so small, insignificant even, can seep into the minds of people. Especially our children. Every choice we make touches their life in some way, big or small. When we expose them to things like worshiping the Lord or going to church, we are building a foundation of rock-solid faith. By us leading in example, they mimic what they learn. And in turn it becomes something that grows as they grow.

Since then, my daughters and I pray more often (something that we are still working on). My youngest and I sing every day to praise and fill our spirit. I mention Jesus as often as I can. Making sure to highlight that he never leaves our side. I try now to reflect my choices to follow God and trust in him so that they learn by my actions.

By being deliberate and living with purpose for God others around will see a spark. Something in me that they are missing. I pray I can continue to influence not only my family but others to come to know how wonderful our Father is.

We can all do that. We can all spark a turning point for others to seek the arms of God. All it takes is to surrender, obey, trust and be the example that others see. Especially for our children. This way we can help build a stronger foundation for their generation.

As we navigate this journey together, let's always consider the power of our influence and the importance of nurturing our children's hearts with the love of God.
